Spiderboy

I've been motivated to try my hand at realism with oil paints so I thought why not try it with my very own son. I have to say that painting realism with oils is a bit challenging especially when it comes to faces. Creating flesh tones isn't my toughest challenge, it's seeing the implied lines created by lights and shadow. Also, when looking at flesh, it isn't just one color, but made of multiple hues of reds, browns, yellow etc. I'm fairly pleased with this painting, but I would like to improve on my technique. Creating this painting has caused me to be more observant with faces. So if you catch me staring, it's because I'm trying to be a better painter of portraits.

Portraits in oil are tough. That is nice work!
